Theme: what we owe the ship — Status: simmering
Four months ago Arla Sund received a transmission from the Shoulder addressed to her by name, and she has told no one — not Lena Jonk, not Turid Aas, not Maren Hoek, who would consider it a settlement matter and be correct. Oskar Veld has been working out, privately and carefully, whether the tidal shelf's elevation and the Shoulder's low northwestern arc give him enough geometry to send a signal directly to the ship — not a distress call, just a question he has not yet been able to word — and he has sketched the calculations only in a margin of Daan Rouke's logistics ledger, where Daan has noticed them and said nothing. The resupply drops have come twice this year instead of four times, and the silence from the Shoulder is not empty — Arla knows this, Oskar suspects it, and Daan has begun to draft a formal inquiry he does not yet know how to address to a ship that has not explained itself. These three separate acts of quiet communication are moving toward each other without any of them knowing it, and Maren Hoek, who manages everything, has not been told about any of them.
