Primary educator — first generation, age 45
She believes that knowing things — truly knowing them, not merely needing them to function — is the only form of dignity available on a cold ledge, and she has organized her life around this belief with an intensity that occasionally frightens people. She is warm inside the classroom and inflexible outside it, which confuses people who only know her from one context. The reduction of her teaching hours has settled into her not as grief but as a grievance, which is a distinction she is acting on.
She came aboard the Shoulder as the colony's sole designated educator — the only person whose function was specifically to perpetuate knowledge rather than apply it — and has spent four years teaching the cluster with materials she mostly reconstructed from memory and handwritten notes. Since the classroom-hours dispute she has been running informal sessions for selected children outside the settlement's schedule, teaching things that have not been approved. She does not intend to stop.
The informal lessons she is running include ship governance history she was explicitly asked not to teach — specifically, the administrative disputes that preceded the Shoulder's departure and who was overruled.
