Where the dark comfort of the Keep meets the relentless yield of the loam.
The settlement occupies a narrow, perpetually damp trough situated between the outer curtain wall of Oakhaven Keep and the main grain basin. The ground is saturated silt, making all foot traffic dependent on the widespread, heavily reinforced lumber planks used by the inhabitants.
The initial settlers—a mix of displaced tillers and stone masons—took refuge here following the dissolution of the Barony. They were drawn by the unexpectedly rich, boggy soil that allowed for a startlingly bountiful harvest of hardy winter rye. The first decade demanded constant vigilance against both blight and the deep, sucking mud that perpetually threatened to consume their lower dwellings.
The air perpetually smells of wet grain, woodsmoke, and the acrid tang of curing leather soles. Daybreak is marked by the clatter of whetstones and the rhythm of scythes being dragged across the wet fields. Life is structured by the cyclical needs of the harvest, making noise and movement predictable.
